University of Miami Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Postdoctoral Fellowship

12/8/2016

One to two full-time Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) postdoctoral fellowships positions at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine are available for the 2017-2018 training year. The postdoctoral fellows will be primarily located at the Mailman Center for Child Development located in Miami, FL. Qualifications for this position include the completion of an APA-approved internship in child clinical psychology. Preference for the position(s) will be given to individuals with a clinical training background in PCIT and/or other evidence-based behavior parent training programs.

Approximately 50% of the postdoctoral fellows’ effort is devoted to conducting PCIT services with families. While the UM PCIT program or PCIT305 primarily serves young children with disruptive behavior disorders, our program also serves children with co-occurring speech delays; autism spectrum disorders; intellectual disabilities; cochlear implants or hearing loss; genetic disorders; and/or histories of child maltreatment.

Postdoctoral fellows’ effort related to clinical service varies based on their level of interest in research. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to join one or more of PCIT305’s multiple ongoing research studies. Given that PCIT305 serves approximately 100 families per year, opportunities for independent research exists as well.

Current research activities include the following:
  • The evaluation of the additive benefit of Pocket PCIT: CDI (iBook) beyond traditional PCIT services. (Pocket PCIT: PDI is currently in production)
  • The evaluation of natural helpers/community health workers to increase engagement of urban, Hispanic families in PCIT
  • The feasibility of PCIT as a dependency reunification maintenance intervention for children returning to parents’ care
  • A comparison of PCIT treatment processes and outcomes between families with children with ASD and families with children who are typically developing.
  • The feasibility of a continuum of care model of PCIT (i.e., Primary Care PCIT, Selective Prevention PCIT, Standard PCIT, internet-delivered PCIT)

Postdoctoral fellows will also have the opportunity for gaining supervision and training experience dependent upon their prior PCIT training and certification. Dr. Jent, a PCIT International Level II Trainer views the postdoctoral training year as an excellent opportunity for certified PCIT therapists to receive the training experience and competencies required to become a Level I Trainer. If postdoctoral fellows do not have prior PCIT experience or are not certified, the focus of the postdoctoral training year will be ensuring that the postdoctoral fellow receives the training and case experience necessary to meet the competencies required for becoming a certified PCIT therapist.
If you would like to know more about our staff and program, feel free to check out a video about PCIT305.

The expected start date for this position will be between September 1, 2017 and October 1, 2017, but the start date is negotiable.   Salary is commensurate with educational level and experience (e.g., NIH postdoctoral fellow stipend levels).

In order to be considered for a position, please send statement of interest, CV, and three letters of recommendation via email to: Jason Jent, PhD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Mailman Center for Child Development, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine at jjent@med.miami.edu).  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the application deadline of 1/13/17. The University of Miami is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.

Feel free to email Jason Jent, PhD at jjent@med.miami.edu if you have any questions about the position or would like additional information.
