About PCIT International


Mission Statement of PCIT International 

PCIT International seeks to foster the well-being of children and families of all cultures and nations through the effective delivery of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).​

To support this mission, PCIT International aspires to:
  • Promote the implementation and dissemination of PCIT across diverse settings to increase families’ access to quality services;
  • Provide services and resources in positive parenting practices suitable to families of all races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, national origin, sexual orientation, gender or other characteristics;
  • Empower caregivers to make changes that will lead to a nurturing and secure relationship with their child;
  • Develop and expand training and leadership opportunities for traditionally underrepresented groups, including, but not limited to, members of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in order to ensure a diverse network of PCIT providers and trainers in regions and nations reached by PCIT International;
  • Provide high quality professional development and continuing education opportunities relevant to PCIT;
  • Support providers and trainers in delivering PCIT with fidelity and with sensitivity to cultural and individual differences;
  • Maintain a system for identifying well-trained providers and trainers in PCIT through PCIT International’s certification process;
  • Advocate for policies that represent and promote the mission and goals of PCIT International;
  • Support well-designed research on PCIT procedures and adaptations;
  • Share findings of the research and clinical innovations on PCIT with the PCIT community and the public; and
  • Engage consumers/recipients of PCIT services in developing research questions and improving practices to better serve the community. 

PCIT International is the authorized organization for research and training in the empirically-supported PCIT protocol. PCIT Certified Trainers are sanctioned by PCIT International to provide expert training and consultation in the official PCIT protocol, leading to eligibility for certification as a therapist by PCIT International.
