Description
The Karitane Toddler Clinic was established in 2006 in South Western Sydney, Australia in response to an identified need for families with children displaying significant behaviour difficulties. The Clinic is equipped with one-way mirrors, timeout rooms and video facilities, servicing approximately 200 families per year. Since it’s establishment, the Karitane Toddler Clinic has developed into a high profile research clinic collaborating with the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney. Karitane has close links with PCIT Global trainers Cheryl McNeil, Emma Girard and Larissa Niec.
In Australia, PCIT is becoming more well known as an evidence based treatment for children with behavioural issues. Currently there are 23 certified PCIT clinicians in Australia and the numbers are growing.
Karitane is leading the way for PCIT in Australia and hosts a 5-day PCIT training event yearly. After many years piloting an adaptation of PCIT for Toddlers, Sue Morgan and Jane Kohlhoff recently co-authored a book outlining the adaptation entitled ‘Parent Child Interaction Therapy with Toddlers: Improving Attachment and Emotional Regulation’. Following two successful pilot evaluation studies, a larger Randomised Controlled Trial testing the efficacy of PCIT-Toddler is now underway at the Karitane Toddler Clinic.
