PCIT in South Korea
History
PCIT implementation in South Korea started in 2002 when Eunnie R. Rhee, Psy. D., trained in PCIT at Lydia Home in Chicago, Illinois, began offering PCIT at the New Life Counseling Center in Seoul. Since 2005, PCIT has been implemented at Torch Trinity Counseilng Center in Seoul andgreat effort has been made to provide PCIT to Korean families. These efforts have included the completion of further trainings (40-hr basic training and 2-day advanced training in 2009 under PCIT Global Trainer Cheryl McNeil., Ph.D. and a two-day Advanced Training & Within Agency Training in 2012 under Global Trainers Beverly Funderburk, Ph.D. and Melanie Nelson, Ph.D. at the Oklahoma Child Study Center). In 2006, Jeing Il Doo, Ph.D. and Hyang-Duk Jin, Ph.D. completed PCIT training under Global Trainers Sheila Eyberg, Ph.D. and Regina Bussing, Ph.D. at The University of Florida and started to implement PCIT in Seoul. The Korean version of the 2011 PCIT manual has been made available through a joint effort between Eunnie R. Rhee, Jeing Il Doo, and Hyang-Duk Jin. Since then, more professionals completed PCIT trainings: some in the U.S., some under the training offered by Global Trainers Sheila Eyeberg, Ph.D. and Elizabeth Brestan-Knight, Ph.D. at Torch Trinity Counseling Center in 2015, and others under the consultation of Level II and Level I Trainers at different locations.
