History
De Bascule, Academic Center for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Amsterdam, was one of the first mental health centers in the Netherlands to search for effective, manual-based interventions for treating children and adolescents. In 2005, the search for effective treatment programs for behavioral problems in young children led the Director of the Bascule to PCIT. The research outcomes on the effectiveness of PCIT for families affected by domestic violence and child abuse contributed to the decision to implement PCIT in the Department of Family Psychiatry. This program treats families with young children who have multiple problems and are treated after incidences of child abuse or to prevent child abuse in families identified as being at-risk.
