PCIT in Switzerland
History
Dr. Bruno Rhiner, head of KJPD (Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services Thurgau; Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) Thurgau, Switzerland, first learned about PCIT during his sabatical in London. He later found that a child and adolescent psychiatrist in Germany, Dr. Wolfgang Briegel, had already successfully implemented PCIT in Germany, so he decided to contact him.
In order to demonstrate PCIT in action, Dr. Briegel invited psychiatrists and a psychologist from KJPD Thurgau to visit the Leopoldina Hospital in Schweinfurt in 2011. Inspired from what he saw, Dr. Rhiner brought PCIT to Switzerland. In 2012 and 2013, KJPD employees attended PCIT workshops in Schweinfurt. At that time, the reconstruction of the therapy rooms according to PCIT standards (room with one-way-mirror, installation of camera and sound system) began in Münsterlingen and in 2014 began in Frauenfeld.
PCIT was first implemented in 2013 in Münsterlingen with a team led by Petra Scherbarth and expanded in 2015 to the clinic in Frauenfeld with Marianne Strobel. The whole implementation process has been supervised by PCIT Global Trainer Wolfgang Briegel from Schweinfurt, Germany.

Current Situation
PCIT is now increasingly recognised in Switzerland as an evidence-based intervention for 2-6 year old children, especially in the area of disruptive behaviour problems. Currently, three certified PCIT therapists work in Switzerland, Kanton Thurgau, (among them two Level I Trainers) and 4 trainees.
